DC 2nd @ WG!

Strongest Meudon ride of the year so far comes from Dave Creeggan at the Wally Gimber RR. When Dave got across to the winning break the momentum was faltering and multiple winner Rob Hurd was already up the road on his own. Dave spent the rest of the race at the front of the group trying to reel him in. Coming into the finish there was a hesitation as everyone realized Rob was going to stay away, at which point Dave unleashed his sprint and held off the rest of the break to win the gallop for 2nd place.

New kit has arrived.

This season's kit order has now arrived and should available from Craig from 24th of March. The new Vecchi kit is nearly finished and should be dispatched next week.

Pete W 6th @ Hog Hill

Pete Wager reports from E London:

"Nat B - 1 and 2's race at Hog Hill - approx 20 riders lined up for 1
hour plus 5 laps of the Redbridge Cycle circuit - clear blue skies and a
nice little headwind on the finishing climb. London Dynamo had a strong
showing with 6 riders and they set the pace with an early break going
clear of about 8 riders including 3 Dynamos

Not feeling great and still getting back to fitness from my bout of man
flu I was stuck in the 2nd group and only adding what I could to keep
the front group in striking distance, mostly pulling up the climb. With
5 laps to go the front group was down to 4 riders and we were closing in
fast - I decided to let the others do the work and bide my time for the
up hill sprint

Into the last KM and the 4 leaders are about 5 seconds clear and the
sprint was beginning to wind up - pleased to see London Dynamo chasing
even with 1 of their own still in the break!! I left it in the big ring
for the uphill finish and gave it full gas with 200m to go and managed a
reasonable 6th place - a few more metres and it would have been
4th.......next time! All good prep for the Easter 3 Day."

Bernie - Get on Your Bike and Ride

Things are bound to change in the Surrey League Overall table as several of the top ranked riders scored more points this weekend, but let's savour the moment when Bernie was sitting at the top of the tree - We'd like to see her back up there, so look forward to seeing her out racing again soon...

Rider of the Month

Should we re-instate this traditional VCM tradition? I was clearing out the office at the weekend and found an old VCM Newsletter from April 1990 - yes 19 yrs ago, when Ben was the editor. Here's the ROTM entry ...

Rider of The Month - April

Comeback rider of the month is Andy "Your frame's crap mate!" Grant for the most determined of all the comeback efforts.

nothing changes ...

Steven Green reports from Thruxton

"I raced in the 4th cat Omega Thruxton Circuits race yesterday and came in 6th. We had the best of the sunshine but 30mph+ headwind up the hill to the finish was tough! Weird race all round but very happy to be half way out of this category after my second race of the season!"

Hard Day @Surrey League Alfold

Both Surrey League races at Alfold yesterday tested the metal of VCM riders who braved cool temperatures, wind and rain. (Thanks to Terry Morgan who comissaired the 3rds)

In the 3rd Cat morning race Darren Franklin and Colin Addison joined a full field on the rearranged Alford circuit (as Kirdford was flooded). From the off it was flat-out with riders getting dropped before the race reached Dunsfold village. The pace remained high and the field lined out until things got even faster on lap 3. That finished the hopes of many, as riders slipping to the back of the field found themselves unable to rejoin on the back. Thankfully the pace relented once a few breakaways started to establish and with 2 laps to go both Darren and myself found ourselves in a slower moving bunch with 8 riders having merged together 2 minutes up the road. With both London Dynamo and Addiscombe CC fully represented ahead there was plenty of blocking behind. It came down to a bunch sprint and, with both of us having recovered from a opportunist effort back in Plaistow on the last lap, Darren took 6th in bunch sprint for 14th overall to my 18th.

In the afternoon race the tales of woe continue
From Duncan who finished 15th ...
"Did I enjoy it? NO!!! but glad to finish.
windy, sunny, Rain, Sleet we had it all, not quite sure what happened i think it was all a war of attrition, there was a group away from early on and rumor had it was about 20 strong, and i think Martin was in it, we were just surviving, then found myself without pushing into it in a 10 up group, went for it 1 lap to go with Dulwich and Rapha, then died a thousand deaths 5 km from home, but finished none the less. Horrible!!!!"

and from Ben
"We set off into pretty strong winds with Marin Hulbert attacking from the neutralized zone and taking 4 others with him. After letting them go people start trying to get across and both break and bunch are lined out and 10 are out the back before the end of the first lap. Quickly work out I'm having one of those "are my brake blocks rubbing?, do my hubs need servicing" days, feeling on the limit most of the time. Then it pissed down heavily for half an hour. By now my arms and hands are numb and I can't feel the gear paddles at all. Start drifting out the back of what's left of the bunch (which is starting to fall apart) and crawl to the changing rooms. Where half the bunch and about 4 of the break are also shivering and relieved to be inside again. As I leave who should appear in a small group chasing the break but tough Scottish person Duncan Hards..."

Who are these people who keep turning up and winning races like this ?
not even Rob Hurd could contain a London Dynamo 3rd Cat - doesn't stack up?

Cycle Kingdom Classic re-scheduled

Jo rides to 2nd in Gorrick MTC XC

racing well in this weekend's Gorrick was Jo Munden

"In the Master's Women's race it was business as usual for Kim Hurst as she took her 3rd win of the series, with Jo Munden taking her 3rd second. It's interesting to see however that where Kim is not slowing down, Jo is definitely speeding up and that gap between these two ladies is narrowing very quickly! Kim's dominating 8 min gap on the first round has now been whittled down to just 88secs! Should be some close racing come race 5 all being well!"

Summerfield at Chertsey

After protesting about being cruelly missed out from Colin's report from Chertsey last week, I can confirm that Colin Summerfield rode Chertsey this week. Colin apparently now rides until his heart monitor tells him he should ease off just in case going any harder kills him. In the E123 Gianluca was best finisher in 6th. Lots of hairy moments with a fist fight afterwards between two riders arguing over who was the most dangerous. Again the highlight of the day was Bernie's ride in the women's race where she managed a strong second from the bunch sprint.
