The Farnham Bike Ride

Run for the second time over 23 rolling miles on the 4th of July around the roads that'll be familiar to most of you round Crondall, Well, South Warnborough and Lower Froyle this is a nice relaxed day out. Several pubs on route, ideal for a family ride - you can even count it as training by putting a tagalong on the back and see how fast you can do it.

Powerbreathe for sale

For Sale: Powerbreathe Ironman Plus - £35 (RRP £49.99)

I won this in a race recently but already have one so hence my attempt to sell. The basics of Powerbreathe is that it is a device similar to an inhaler which involves a series of resistance-based breathing exercises which can be adjusted according to the level of workout you desire. The research which has been conducted on them shows improvements by up to 3 mins over a 40km time trial. I have noticed quite an improvement in my own performances since using one this season, so even if you are sceptical of the research blurb, I can vouch for them personally.

Finally, I can confirm that the item is brand new, boxed and obviously not used by myself!

Dan McCarthy (Djmacca_@hotmail.com)

Evening 10 story continues

In this week's installment club strongmen Gabriel Martinez and Dan McCarthy were pipped into second place with 20.51 (a shade under 29mph), a second behind someone called Julian despite riding two up. A further minute behind in third was Mr. Consistent, Chris Day. Chris says it was a "slow night". Not sure if this refers to the general conditions or his performance in particular, although 27.5 mph seems quite fast.

A new VCM name on the start sheet was Andy Dilkes, 1 and a half minutes faster than the unofficial Mrs. Dilkes. Add in Inga Taylor, the Worthington brothers and Robert Collard and you'll have plenty of VCM company if you fancy torturing yourself of a Tuesday evening.

Commuter Dreams

I you haven't seen this already - a good laugh ...

Jo wins National Masters race - interview

Jo Munden has won the 2nd round of the NPS Masters series last week. Instead of writing a race report she insisted on a filmed interview - it's the last one at 5 minutes and 4 secs into the film:

The Farnham evening 10s

The evening 10 mile time trials held every Tuesday night continue throughout the summer and there are normally several VC Meudon riders taking part. Chris Day is usually in the top three recording some quick times and must be due a win soon after recording 21:58 (27.4mph) which was only 13 second slower than local monster fastman Gabriel Martinez.

For more info you can check out the Farnham Road Club website or contact Chris through the site if you don't have his details.

Thursday night chaingangs

Dave Creeggan is resurrecting the traditional summer chaingang.

Meet at the blackwater roundabout B3272/A30 RDT at 6.30pm on Thursdays starting this week. The route is the old summer chain gang route towards old basing finishing at the fleet turn off on the Odiham bypass. Dave reckons it is about 30 miles. If you are interested please contact Dave (if you don't have his details you can reach him through the website) or simply turn up on Thursday. All welcome.

Motor pacing offer from Pip

Pip Taylor reports from Hertfordshire:
"On Sunday I took part in a Derny Pacers training course held at Welwyn track. VCM's Vet Track Champs, Bob Moore and Andy Grant took part as followers.
I have attached some pics of Bob and Andy being paced by Max Pendleton (Victoria's Dad) and the rather blurred pic is me pacing Bob.
I passed the course and now am an accredited class C (training) and class B (racing) Derny pacer. So if any of the VCM guys want some Derny training at Reading, I am happy to run a session and pace them.
Many thanks to Bob and Andy for trusting us novices and chasing us all day!
