Vets Race Reports

Finsbury Park RR. Round 3 of MStina series.

Craig Wilson's Report

I was the only CV entry in the Finsbury Park RR in Essex. How would he cope without the CV squadra and lead out train. The 60 mile race was on a flat course and on lap 2 of 6 a 2 man break formed. With 2 laps to go a 4 man chase group formed which included Craig. It soon caught the 2 leaders and after losing one the break (all Bs with Meilak stuck in the bunch) built a lead of over a minute. In the last km Andrew Bates sneaked away and Craig beat the rest(O'Grady, Caton) to take 2nd. Part Time CV Rob Kennison won the bunch sprint to take 9th. In the overall series O'Grady and Caton lead with 3 counting event.

Keith Brooks' Report
Did I ride the same course as Wilson? It was supposed to be flat Essex but it rolled a lot and all the locals knew where to go hard to make it hurt. It seemed everytime I hit the front (yes I know that’s odd) it went round a bend and up another drag with everyone going past me.

Ex Vets World Champ Tony Woodcock went away on the first lap, two of us chased nearly got him but he went again and we thought it was over. However a lap later and he was in sight and he was pulled back by the 50 up field.

Lots of attacks all the time then with two laps to go CVs Phil Masters and Paul Shoebridge did hard turns at the front but as we hit the drag a huge purge by ex pros Woodcock, McMillan and Smith took a group of 10 away just at the wrong time for Phil and Paul who found themselves in the back group.

10 miles to go and Reg Smith attacks and we watch him go…he did a 59min 25 in March so clearly on form…never to be seen again. Sprint for 2nd place, I keep a close eye on the two locals, Woodcock and Devine, and manage to slip past them both with 100mts to go for 2nd place for the second week running.
Phil Masters and Paul Shoebridge came in with the bunch.
