For those of you who don't know, after her impressive Surrey League topping start to the season Bernie Hards has been recruited to the Maxgear women's team, picking up her second cat along the way. After finishing 9th and 10th in the two day at Bedford, Bernie lined up in Straiton, Scotland for the next in the women's national road race series.

Rider of the Month
After a long absence the website team thought that the return of this award might add a little more competition out there. Each month we will choose a club member who has either performed particularly well or represented the club in another way.
So to catch up.
January Rider of the Month - Mark Ottoway
Starting as a 4th cat right at the end of last season Mark spent the winter driving miles and racing in all conditions to get his 3rd cat and then his 2nd cat licence. Whilst we were indoors watching Eastenders he was out there training in snow and rain and it paid off with wins and numerous placings. Great example to 4th cats who are very restricted on the events they can ride.
February Rider of the Month - Bernie Hards
What an example to 30 something mums with a family and a full time job; A winter of training with the lads in all weathers, keeping us amused and on our toes on Weds and Thurs mornings paid off for Bernie in Feb when she won her first (and the Meudons first of the year) road race at Chertsey. Now deservedly rewarded with a place on a top ladies team look out for more classy rides from Bernie during the year (and look out Vets next year!!)
March rider of the Month - Dave Creeggan
Whilst all the boys were out there in sunny training camps and signing for new teams Dave kept his usual low profile (demeanour not bike) and trained hard on the banks of rivers and airfields and then delivered a great ride in the Wally Gimber, narrowly beaten into second place. Whenever Dave races we know he is going to get a good result. Look out for more consistent performances during 2009.
April rider of the Month - Darren Franklin
Darren has been riding for just a couple of years in Meudon colours supporting the guys in local races. This Easter Darren rode the SL 3 day, a notoriously hard event for 3rds as it is on tough courses and is targeted by all the 3rds who have been performing well in the early season events (usually ex 1st and 2nds coming back). Darren rode very strongly in all 3 days and ended up 12th overall just a couple of minutes down on the winner. There are a lot of Meudoners who would have been very pleased to have achieved this. Second cat soon?
Craig W in the points @ Barcombe
Craig Wilson reports form the Surrey League 2/3 on the rolling Barcombe course where he finished in the top ten:
"Fast start with field of 60 round narrow, twisting circuit full of tractors, combine harvesters and horses but thankfully few cars. First two laps were fast and with aching dead legs and ambushes from combine harvesters had me on the verge of packing because of danger and pain!!
After 2 laps it started to break up with 3s and 4s drifting off and the bunch definitely in danger of splitting. A front group of 15 formed with all the big hitters and I was the last to bridge the 10 second gap - took me a lap to recover!!
The break gradually built up a lead until 2 laps to go some silly cat and mouse saw the break split in two with me in the second group along with Prebble and Simmonds from Dynamo. They jumped across to the front group on the finish climb but I couldn't hold Prebble's wheel and spent the next few miles trying to close the 5 second gap but didn't make it!!!!! The rest of the break disintegrated behind and either packed or got mopped up by the bunch.
After that me and another chap from the break rode to the finish but it should have been better. I'll console myself with the thought that my legs were dead from the start and it wasn't going to be my day so a week of rest is in order!!"
