2009 Cycle Kingdom Series - Race 5 results

Races held Wednesday 20th May 2009

Firstly some sincere apologies from the organiser for the almighty cock-up in the closing laps of the E12 race. It's not going to be possible to come up with a solution that everyone is happy with, so we're left with opting for something which is the best of some unsatisfactory choices. But firstly, here's a brief explanation of what actually happened.

As is normal for this race, the lap board started counting down from 5 laps to go. After the riders went through with 2 laps to go, we forgot to reset the board to "1 to go", so the lap board remain showing "2 to go" as the riders came round again. Assuming the board was correct, the bell was not rung by the finish line officials. Some riders, who were counting down the laps themselves thought there was now "1 to go", while others who saw the board or who were waiting for the sound of the bell didn't think it was the start of the last lap.

Next time around, some people sprinted for the line while others followed, expecting to hear the bell ( which they did! ). Realising what had happened, the organiser informed the riders on the back straight that the race was now over (probably another error in hindsight) - those who had just sprinted sat up, while others, thinking they were on the last lap now, were surprised/confused and many still opted to sprint for the line next time). TOTAL MAYHEM!!

There were all kinds of other individual viewpoints and opinions from various riders, which we have taken on board, but it doesn't change the fact that we're now unable to produce a fair result for all. We are extremely sorry for this.

So, we have decided to call the race null and void and offer everyone a free entry for next week's race (or the next time they race at Eelmore if they won't be there on May 27th). This reduces the overall race series to 12 events for the E12's, so the rules will be slightly adjusted so that a rider's best 9 results count for the overall prizes. (not 10 as before).

We will publish the current overall rankings here very soon.

Once again we are very sorry for the mess up and will be working extra hard next week to ensure everything runs smoothly.
