Pete 2nd in London Champs

Pete Wager reports:

"The Nick Clark RR doubled up as the London RR Champs held at Leighton Buzzard, Beds on June 21 by Kenton RC.

79 riders lined up for 130km (8 laps) on the Cheddington circuit with sunny but breezy conditions. After a few weeks of feeling under the weather and focussing on the new TT bike I was hoping just to get round and get some good racing miles back in the legs. Attacks went from the gun with everyone chasing all the moves - until around the 6th lap a few riders were getting clear over the climbs but getting pulled back on the decents and long flat sections. Last lap and 5 riders went clear including Martin Ford, Dan Patten, Warrick Spence, Andy Betts and one other. Pace remained high in the bunch but it was never going to catch the lead group with Sigma Sport controlling every move to protect Andy Betts.

In the final KM's I secured my position on the front of the bunch ready for the head wind sprint for the line. Warrick Spence touched wheels as the lead group opened up the sprint and came down so it was 2nd place available for the next London based rider as we passed him getting back on his bike. I went for it early and managed to hold of Lewis to take the silver medal and 10th in the Nick Clark. Not a bad return to racing!"
