Wilson & Hulbert Retain Jersey

The Ciclisti Vecchi Vets lined up for the De Laune Vets races on the hilly Bletchingly circuit. 3 races were held for different age categories.

Colin Addison, Craig Wilson, Keith Jarrett and Terry Morgan lined up for the A/B race which got off to an immediate fast start. There was no let up for the next 30 miles until a break of 3 broke away with 20 miles to go. With Colin Roshier and Matt Seaton away in the break the bunch, now down to 20 riders, was thankfully able to ease up slightly. The break built a lead of about a minute whilst the bunch with Colin, Keith and Craig prepared for the finish at the top of the Bletchingly climb. Colin Roshier won from Matt Seaton and Craig managed to grovel up the climb slightly faster than most of the bunch to take 6th (why did I try the big ring!). In finishing 2nd in his age group Craig also managed to strengthen his lead in the overall series - perhaps I'll wear the matching white shorts next time!

In the C/D race for 50-59 yrs Martin Hulbert also retained the series leadership.
Here's Martin's report ..
I got in a break on the 2nd full climb of Bletchingly hill, going away just over the top just before the motorway bridge. The break consisted of Peter Smith (Team Milton Keynes), myself, Bob Moore, Mick McManus (RT316)& Ray Robinson. We work well and stayed away till the finish, only dropping Ray Robinson on the penultimate climb who got caught by the bunch. I lead out the sprint but Peter Smith got by me for the win just before the finish. Myself second, Bob Moore third and Mick 4th.
